Men’s Sash
Embroidered
A men’s sash, known as a faja, is a highly decorated functional wrap belt worn by Indigenous Mayan men. This is hand-woven and hand-embroidered with intricate geometric patterns. Traditionally, it is used to hold up traditional trousers and provide lower back support. In many Mayan communities, specific colors and designs represent the wearer’s municipality, social status, or the elements.
