Chakla or Wall Hanging
Magenta with embroidery
Possibly a decorative square textile or traditional chakla. A chakla is a ceremonial square embroidered cloth originating primarily from the Kutch and Saurashtra regions of Gujarat and the neighboring Thar Desert areas of Rajasthan in India, Chaklas were traditionally made by young brides and their families as a vital part of a wedding trousseau or dowry. Chaklas were also hung on interior or exterior walls, or used to embellish furniture

This chakla has a deep madder-red ground cloth with a silk border (now frayed in sections), with geometric, embroidered diamond lattice and cross designs. It includes small round mirrors, shisha, embedded within the embroidery of the textile, a common characteristic of Rajasthani designs. The reflective shishas are traditionally used to ward off evil and represent wealth, good fortune, and auspicious beginnings. The square form itself is considered sacred and auspicious in local traditions.
